Float the Chena River from Nordale Bridge to Pioneer Park

Enjoy a full-day scenic paddle
on the Chena River!

This stretch typically takes 4–6 hours with a steady, easy paddle—no strenuous effort required. Just keep a gentle, consistent pace to make it in the 4–6 hour window; if you take it too slowly and float, the trip can stretch to 8–10 hours.

Bring water, snacks, sun protection, and weather-appropriate clothing for a comfortable day on the river.

We’ll shuttle you and your boat(s) to the Nordale Road bridge near North Pole for your put-in. Paddle through spruce and birch forests while sharing the river with kingfishers, ducks, and beavers. Lucky paddlers may even spot a moose browsing along the shore. The river winds through Fort Wainwright and downtown Fairbanks, ending at Pioneer Park near Peger Road, where we’ll pick you up.
